120W King Series LED Street Light Project for Dakar Port Road, Senegal

120W King Series LED street lights illuminating the main road near Port of Dakar at night

Project Background

This project serves as a critical infrastructure upgrade for the main access road leading to the **Port Autonome de Dakar** (Port of Dakar), the westernmost port in Africa. The road handles heavy logistics traffic day and night.

Unlike our previous University Campus project, this is a **high-intensity municipal application**. The client needed a robust AC lighting solution that could withstand the dusty, salty coastal environment while delivering high-lux illumination for dual-lane traffic.

The Challenge: Dust & Harsh Environment

  • Heavy Dust Accumulation: Located in a logistics hub and the Sahel region, street lights are prone to heavy dust buildup. Standard ribbed lights would overheat and fail quickly.
  • Maintenance Difficulty: Closing a main port access road for maintenance causes massive logistical delays. The client demanded a "Zero Maintenance" design.
  • Unstable Grid: The local power grid experiences voltage fluctuations, which can burn out cheap LED drivers.

The Solution: King Series 120W (AC)

We supplied the **120W King Series LED Street Light**. Here is the engineering logic for this specific environment:

1. Self-Cleaning & Dust Proof: We chose the King Series because of its **Streamlined Back** and **Tempered Glass Cover**. Unlike PC lenses that trap dust, the glass surface allows wind and rain to naturally clean the fixture. This is crucial for maintaining brightness in dusty Dakar.

2. Grid Protection (Surge Proof): To handle voltage spikes, we integrated top-tier **Meanwell/Inventronics drivers** with **10KV Surge Protection**. This ensures the lights survive grid instability that would destroy lesser fixtures.

3. Tool-Free Maintenance: The buckle design allows for tool-free access. In the rare event of a check-up, crews can open the fixture by hand, minimizing road closure time.

Operational Status (Jan 2026 Update)

Installed in **April 2021**, this project has been running stably for nearly **5 years**. Despite the harsh port environment, the lights maintain high lumen output with no yellowing of the lens, proving the superiority of Tempered Glass in Africa.
