7-Year Revisit: Kenya Municipal Street Lighting Project (Zero Failures)

Bright night view of Kenya municipal road illuminated by Leyond LED street lights after 7 years

A Promise is Good. Proof is Better.
In the B2B lighting industry, many suppliers offer 5-year paper warranties, but very few return to the site to check the reality. In late 2025, our CEO traveled to Kenya to personally revisit a municipal street lighting project we installed back in 2019. The results speak for themselves.

The Challenge: Africa's Ultimate Stress Test

Lighting up municipal roads in Kenya means battling two of the harshest enemies of electronics:

  • Equatorial Heat & UV: Constant exposure to intense African sun causes cheap plastic housings to become brittle, crack, and fail within 2 years.
  • Unstable Power Grids: Frequent power surges, voltage fluctuations, and lightning strikes are the #1 killers of LED drivers in the region.

The 7-Year Reality Check (Late 2025)

After almost 7 years of relentless operation, the photographs taken during our revisit reveal the truth about our manufacturing standards:

1. Zero Structural Degradation:

As seen in the close-up daytime photos, our heavy-duty Die-cast Aluminum Housing remains completely intact. There is no cracking, no rust, and no structural compromise. It has perfectly protected the internal components from the equatorial heat.

2. Zero Driver Burnouts:

Despite the unstable grid, the lights remain 100% operational. This is entirely due to our strict mandate of using top-tier drivers paired with high-capacity 10KV/20KV Surge Protection Devices (SPD). We engineered these lights to survive surges, resulting in zero maintenance calls for the municipality.

The Evolution of Quality: From Classic to King Series

The fixtures shown in these photos belong to our Classic AC Street Light Series. While this specific model has since been retired and upgraded, its "Indestructible DNA" lives on.

The lessons learned from 18 years of global engineering—massive heat sinks, independent surge protection, and premium optics—are the exact foundations of our current flagship models, such as the King Series and Galaxy Series.

If our 7-year-old technology can perform like this today, imagine what our current generation of lighting can do for your next project.

ENGINEERING FAQ

How do LED street lights survive unstable power grids in Africa?

To survive frequent voltage spikes and lightning in Africa, street lights must be equipped with premium drivers and standalone 10KV/20KV Surge Protection Devices (SPD). This prevents the core electronics from burning out.

Why is die-cast aluminum important for street lights in Kenya?

Equatorial UV rays and extreme heat quickly degrade and crack plastic housings. Heavy-duty die-cast aluminum ensures structural integrity and provides critical heat dissipation for the LED chips over decades.
